REPORT FROM NEW WORLD FOUNDATION OUTREACH AND RELIEF DEPARTMENT FOR THE THIRD QUARTER

New initiatives in our international portfolio include the launch of a $50, 000 programme for the, Diarrhea and Starvation situation in Niger Republic which focuses on the health needs of inhabitants of the drought ridden Niger Republic who had already started moving into neighboring countries for relief and safety. Under this initiative, we envisage funding a spectrum of projects over the next one year on Public Engagement and Relief in Niger Republic. In partnership with the B & D Fruits, a Nigerian juice industry, we distributed fruits and food items to victims in the Lenge' relief camp. The fruits were distributed to help them with their vitamin needs. We also distributed treated water in water bags. New World Foundation supplied a total of 600, 000 liters of water while the drought lasted.

700 Insecticide treated nets and 2500 RAID insecticides were equally distributed.  Through the help of some of our volunteer health workers who were fed, accommodated and transported to Niger Republic at the Foundation’s expense, a mobile clinic was launched which attended to more than 900 patients with different cases of infectious diseases like Tuberculosis, Scabies, Malaria, Schistosomiasis and Chagas’ Disease. Though for lack of adequate finances, we couldn't do much as our clinic only lived for two weeks before we ran short of drugs.

New World Foundation in June 2008 launched its 4-Year Tropical Disease Eradication Project (TDEP). The principal aim of TDEP is to identify the tools needed for the control of eight tropical diseases and stimulate the corresponding research. TDEP is working in collaboration with academic groups and pharmaceutical industry. TDEP shall within the next two years make it possible to set elimination targets for four of the programme’s eight target diseases: Onchocerciasis, Lymphatic Filariasis, Leprosy, and Chagas Disease. TDEP's successful collaboration with industry shall provide the foundation an operational framework for more recent and scientifically challenging partnerships aimed at product development.

Also, as part of our Public Engagement activity and our strategic aim of eradicating infectious diseases in developing countries, come October 20th to 25th, 2009, the world will converge at Africa’s Largest Resort, TINAPA, Calabar, Nigeria for the New World Summit on Infectious Diseases (NIGERIA NWSID 2009), which is been hosted by us. It will be the highest gathering of experts in the Biomedical Research circle, Academic Scholars, Pharmaceutical giants, Non Governmental Organizations, Federal and State Parastatals, Intergovernmental Organizations and Multinational companies. We are currently making arrangements for well over 15,000 delegates from different parts of the world. The summit registration is free, as the Local Organizing Committee will bear the cost of all the Conference materials, Accommodation, Feeding and all Transportation of participants while in Nigeria for the summit.
